Annual Kirkin' o' the Tartan
Our annual Kirkin' o' the Tartan will be Sunday, November 18, at Trinity Church, Nevada
City, beginning at 3 PM.
Fr. Christopher Seal will officiate.
A reception in the Bishop Kip
Room of the Church will follow the service.
All are welcome to attend.
Members are asked
to contact Sandy Beach who is handling the reception
to see what items they can provide.
The Kirkin' o' the Tartan is a religious service, dating back to the
18th century, when the
English forbade the Scots to wear their tartan or follow any of the Highland ways.
The canny
Scots circumvented this law by concealing a piece of tartan on their person and
having their
minister bless them and the hidden fabric at a special once-a-year service.
Please come and bring some tartan or other personal item to be blessed by Fr. Seal.
It is
a lovely service, and Fr. Seal always makes his homily so entertaining.
GCCS Bell Ringing
Once again the GCCS will participate in the Annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing Drive.
This year we will be at Raley's in Grass Valley on Friday, December 7 from 10AM to 6PM.
Our efforts have been very successful over the past several years.
Most of the volunteers wear Celtic clothing.
Chairperson Margaret Billingham has most of the
shifts filled, but a few more volunteers would be welcome.
Margaret will send reminders to those who have signed up.
Remember to dress warmly and arrive on time for your shift.
Let's have another successful year!
